Washing soda cleans, citric acid tackles scale and makes the tab fizz apart, sodium percarbonate brightens and salt softens the water. Pressed into ice-cube trays, the tabs dissolve completely in the cycle.
Method

Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl.

Spritz with water a few sprays at a time, stirring. Stop the moment it holds together when squeezed. It will fizz slightly — that's normal. Too much water and it foams over.

Press firmly into the tray. Leave for 24 hours to dry hard, then pop out into a jar.
How to use
- One tab in the detergent compartment. Use the citric rinse aid alongside.
Tips
- On a humid day, tabs may take 48 hours to harden.
Safety
- Store well out of reach of children — these look like sweets.
- Wear gloves if you have sensitive hands; the mix is alkaline.
